Eternal Rewards Pt. 9

The Mask Comes Off: Understanding Deception, Power, and the Ultimate Victory

There is a question that quietly haunts many believers, even if they never say it out loud: what actually happens after this life? Most conversations about eternity stop at the moment of death, leaving an enormous gap in our understanding of what comes next. But the Bible does not stop there. Scripture paints a detailed and sometimes startling picture of events yet to come, and understanding those events has the power to transform the way we live right now, today. The truth is simple but profound: we never truly die. We transition. What feels like an ending is actually a doorway into an eternal life, and what we do in this natural realm has direct bearing on what that eternal life looks like. That perspective alone should change everything about how we approach our daily choices, our spiritual habits, and our relationship with God.

A Deceiver With a Plan
The book of Revelation describes a figure called the beast, known more commonly as the Antichrist. He rises from humanity, empowered not by God but by Satan himself. His strategy is not random chaos. It is calculated, organized, and disturbingly familiar because deception has always followed the same pattern. The Antichrist will rise through political systems and exercise authority through the structures of this world. He will present himself as the answer to humanity's greatest problems. He will even make a covenant with Israel, allowing the restoration of temple worship, appearing to be a protector of faith. But eventually, the mask comes off. In the middle of that agreement, everything changes. He enters the holy place and declares himself to be God. What Daniel prophesied in Daniel 9:27, what Jesus warned about in Matthew 24:15, and what Paul described in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 all point to this same moment: the abomination of desolation, when the holy place is violated and the great deception is fully revealed.

The Four Stages of Deception
What makes this so urgent is that the progression of deception described in Revelation is not reserved for some distant future moment. It is happening now. Understanding the four stages can help us guard our hearts. The first stage is admiration. We become impressed by someone's authority, influence, or resources. There is nothing wrong with recognizing someone's gifts, but influence without anointing is dangerous. You can draw a crowd and still have nothing of God to offer. When we chase influence instead of anointing, we are already on a slippery slope. The second stage is fascination. We become captivated by what someone can do or how they sound. A voice can be beautiful and still carry no power to break a burden. Music can stir emotions without ever ushering a soul into the presence of God. When what impresses us begins to influence us, our decisions are no longer being led by the Spirit of God. The third stage is allegiance. We begin to follow without questioning. We excuse behavior we know is wrong. We stay silent because of someone's position. We compromise our convictions. But here is a truth worth holding onto: you can respect someone's position without surrendering your principles. Honor and blind allegiance are not the same thing. The fourth stage is worship. What began as amazement has now become devotion that belongs only to God. This final stage is where the Antichrist ultimately leads those who remain on earth after the church is taken up. But segments of this pattern are visible right now, in the way we spend our time, our money, and our attention.

The War That Is Already Happening
Revelation 13 makes clear that there is a war taking place, and it is not only a future war. The enemy has always been at war with the people of God. The tools he uses are familiar: lying signs and wonders, economic pressure, social isolation, entertainment that desensitizes us to sin, and the slow erosion of spiritual conviction. When we watch content that glorifies perversion and violence, we are not just passively consuming entertainment. We are opening doors. When we scroll past images of death as though they are ordinary, we are desensitizing ourselves to something the Spirit of God takes seriously. When we isolate ourselves from community, we become easier targets. The enemy is strategic, and he is patient. But so is God, and God is far more powerful. Spiritual endurance is not meant to be a crisis tool. It is meant to be a lifestyle. The Colossians 3:2 instruction to set our minds on things above, habitually and consistently, is not a suggestion for hard times. It is a daily posture. We should be people who think about eternity, who live with conviction, and who refuse to allow the slow creep of compromise to dull our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.

The Victory Is Already Written
Here is what the book of Revelation makes unmistakably clear: the Antichrist will rise, but he will fall. The false prophet will rise, but he will fall. Every kingdom built in opposition to God will crumble. In Revelation 19:19-21, the beast and the false prophet are captured and thrown into the lake of fire. Their armies are destroyed by the word that comes from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. The Lord Jesus defeats them not with conventional warfare but with the sword of his mouth, the power of his word. That same word is available to you right now. Between your nose and your chin is a weapon. The word spoken in faith, the name of Jesus declared with conviction, carries the same authority that defeats every enemy. You are not waiting on power. Power has already been given to you. The Antichrist will try to control humanity through economic systems, forced worship, and the mark described in Revelation 13:16-17. But his reign is temporary. The kingdom of the Lord Jesus is eternal. The question is not whether God wins. That is already settled. The question is which side you are living on today. Get on the winning side. Stay on the winning side. And live every day with the conviction of someone who knows how the story ends.
